Oregon transfer announces his commitment to USU

LOGAN – Utah State Basketball has picked up another front-court player from the transfer portal.

7-foot center Isaac Johnson announced his commitment to USU on his Instagram page Monday morning.

Johnson is transferring from the University of Oregon to Utah State after playing just one season for the Ducks. He appeared in 14 games for the Ducks, averaging 2.4 points per game while shooting 60.9% from the floor.

Johnson faced Utah State in a first-round matchup in the NIT, where he totaled four minutes, two points and one rebound. He also received a technical foul for pushing Aggie guard Max Shulga from behind.

Johnson is from American Fork, where he played for American Fork High School prior to attending Oregon. Johnson helped lead The Cavemen to a 2019 6A State Basketball Champion during his senior year, finishing the title game with 10 points and seven rebounds. Johnson ended his senior campaign averaging 18.7 points per game and 8.1 rebounds per game.

He was named to the 6A First Team following the 2018-2019 season, the same year that current Aggie guard Rylan Jones won his second straight Mr. Basketball award. In addition, incoming Aggie Mason Falslev was named the 4A MVP as a junior for Sky View High during the same season.

Johnson also served an LDS Mission in Ohio following his high school graduation before enrolling at Oregon last summer. His older brother, Spencer, is a guard at BYU.

The addition of Johnson adds to the center position that currently includes 7-foot senior Trevin Dorius and 6-foot-11 junior Szymon Zapala. Zapala appeared in 21 games for the Aggies this season, averaging 5.3 minutes per game played and totaling 32 points scored on the year. Dorius appeared in 30 games and averaged 2.7 points per game on nearly 60% shooting.

The Aggies currently have all their scholarship spots filled. The deadline for a player to enter the transfer portal is May 1.
