Logan City announces closure of Canyon Road
Logan City announced a portion of Canyon Road will be closed over the next two weeks to accommodate the first phase of a long-planned water pipeline construction project.
Canyon Road — and the adjacent pedestrian trail — will close starting Friday, June 27, as crews trench across the roadway for a new overflow pipeline. The closure will affect drivers, cyclists and pedestrians between Herm’s Inn and the Utah State University Water Research Lab.
The road will be closed from Friday through Thursday, July 3, and again from Monday, July 7, through Friday, July 11. It will temporarily reopen for the Fourth of July weekend, from July 4–6. The pedestrian trail on the north side of Canyon Road will also be closed during both work periods, between Herm’s Inn and First Dam.
The project is part of Logan City’s First Dam Tank and Pipeline installation. City officials say the work is needed to improve water infrastructure, but the project has drawn criticism from community members concerned about the removal of century-old trees along the corridor.
