A call out to the Student Advocate Committee

I feel it is my responsibility as a tuition paying student to ask the Student Advocate Committee to step up to their duties. As many of you students know the parking terrace is now open until midnight. I can’t understand why any student would agree with that decision. Certainly the Student Advocate Committee knows that the student body is not happy about the decision, but what are they doing? I’ve been a student at Utah State University for three years and this is my last semester. Each semester I have seen administration walk all over the students, making poor decisions thinking that it will somehow improve this school. I have also seen ASUSU be completely passive to the decisions made by administration and I think it’s time ASUSU members stop being so submissive. It’s time for ASUSU to represent the students better. I spoke with the current Student Advocate yesterday about the parking terrace situation and he gave me some cop-out answer explaining that administration looked for many different ways to receive money for some specific reason and that the situation is deeper than just keeping the parking terrace open. Hey! You’re the Student Advocate! I don’t want to hear that administration is making decisions that I can’t understand and that I should just let their decisions slide! If the students don’t like something by damn you better fight for it whether you win or not! What kind of résumé builder are you going to have if you haven’t done anything? If someone doesn’t represent students better we may have to look into a recall election of our own. For those of you that don’t keep up with contemporary issues the Governor of California, Gary Davis, is being recalled for doing nothing. If the students that have been elected to represent us are inert in a like manner, it is time they be recalled. With respect to the parking terrace organize a protest! If students refuse to park in the terrace for a week do you realize what that will do to the terrace income? They’ll be forced to submit to the demands of students or they’ll lose money. Step up to the plate ya’ll!
