Aggie Basketball

“It is not ease, but effort, — not facility, but difficulty, that makes men. There is, perhaps, no station in life in which difficulties have not to be encountered and overcome before any decided measure of success can be achieved.” — Samuel Smiles.

I imagine that more than one tear was shed Thursday night from the eyes of true blue Aggie fans. Never was there a more heartbreaking thing in sports than the competition fought and lost by a thin margin.

I have seen a fair amount of basketball in my life, in my ten years playing in the pep bands I have never missed a home game. I have seen many bitter moments. They serve to make the sweet moments more pronounced; those bitter moments make the players that want to win champions and the hollow hearted players stumble into the shadows.

While I am sure that I cannot say that Thursday’s game was the best I have ever seen, I am sure that the team displayed tremdous amounts of strength and courage to keep going. They made me believe that winning was possible, even when the scoreboard declared otherwise. That is what makes the soul of an Aggie. Anybody who cannot display such character and sportsmanship (like those who throw trash at the refs) should not be wearing blue behind the ‘U’ on their t-shirt. I love my Aggies!
