Aggie Golfers Finish In Ninth-Place At WAC Championship
Sophomore Brendan Dennis shot a 7-over 79 during his final round at the 2011 Club Glove Western Athletic Conference men’s golf championship held here at the Rio Secco Golf Club Wednesday to finish tied for 32nd with an 18-over 234 (74-81-79).
Utah State finished in ninth-place as a team with an 86-over 950 (301-318-331), while New Mexico State won its fourth-straight WAC Championship with an 11-over 875 (289-295-291). San Jose State finished second with a 24-over 888 (293-304-291), while Fresno State finished third with a 25-over 889 (288-305-296). Louisiana Tech (295-310-296) and Idaho (298-307-296) tied for fourth with a 37-over 901, Nevada finished sixth with a 49-over 913 (299-306-308), and Boise State (309-309-303) and Hawai’i (308-313-300) tied for seventh with a 57-over 921.
San Jose State’s Mark Hubbard won the individual title after pairing the third sudden death playoff hole to defeat Idaho’s Damian Telles. Hubbard shot a 3-under par 69 in the final round to card a 4-under 212 (71-72-69) for the three rounds, while Telles had rounds of 66, 73 and 73. Fresno State’s Bryan Hogan was third at 2-under par 214 (68-74-72).
Dennis (Roosevelt, Utah) shot a 3-over 39 with a bogey and double-bogey on his front nine Wednesday, and then had two bogeys and another double-bogey on the back nine for his 7-over 79. Schilleman (Layton, Utah) began his final round tied for 11th, but finished tied for 39th after shooting an 18-over 90 Wednesday to end the tournament with a 24-over 240 (73-77-90). Junior Austin French (Idaho Falls, Idaho) shot a 10-over 82 during his final round to tie for 39th as well with a 24-over 240 (79-79-82). Junior Chanse Godderidge (Smithfield, Utah) finished in 43rd-place with a 30-over 246 (81-81-84), and senior Tyson McFarland (Rexburg, Idaho) shot a final round 14-over 86 (75-0-86).
The 2011 WAC Championship concludes the spring season for Utah State.
