Aggie Tennis Coach Wright terminated

MARK HOPKINS, staff writer

Utah State Director of Athletics Scott Barnes announced the unexpected termination of Christian Wright from his position as men’s and women’s tennis head coach Tuesday.

Wright was in the midst of his 22nd year in the program since his hiring in 1992. Assistant coach Bryan Marchant and former assistant Lukas Bouton will serve as interim coaches until the end of the season.

The announcement comes during a busy week for both teams. The women begin play Wednesday at the Intermountain Tennis Association Women’s Mountain Regional Tournament. The tournament runs through Saturday and will consist of individual play in both singles and doubles. Sophomore McKenzie Davis enters the tournament ranked 18th in singles and 10th in doubles with senior partner Jaci West.

The men will head to the University of Utah Intercollegiates Tournament in Salt Lake City, Utah beginning Thursday and concluding Sunday. They will be led by senior Sven Poslusny, who is currently 3-0 in tournament play this fall.
