Aggiemail targeted in phishing spam
Utah State University students’ Aggiemail accounts were targeted for phishing spam today.
“Apparently a spamming phisher got a bunch of aggiemail addresses to send a phishing spam. Because the spammer tried to make it look like it was really from USU, many are promptly reporting it to the IT Security Team or the Service Desk,” said USU IT team member Bob Bayn.
Bayn said students should click the “Report Spam” button in their email if they receive the email.
Bayn confirmed the link to “usu-it-services .jimdo .com” has been blocked and disabled. If students call USU IT at 435-797-HELP, the team there will attempt to determine if their passwords were used for any malicious purpose.
“Because USU does not filter aggiemail messages through our central email filter we don’t have a good way to control or identify messages like that one,” Bayn said.
More updates will be given as they are received.
