Aggies beat Falcons, 72-60

LOGAN—Utah State Men’s basketball beat Air Force at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum for a black out game on Friday night. Final score was 72-60 with a spectator count of 9,194.

“Gutsy win for our guys,” coach Danny Sprinkle said.

Aggies returned to the Spectrum after a close win against Fresno State in which Darius Brown II hit a last second bank-shot three to tie the game and put them into overtime. Thus, resulting in the Aggies beating the Bulldogs in overtime.

An all-female color guard came out to represent the colors for the United States in honor of the first day of national women’s month.

Starters for the Falcons: Ethan Taylor, Byron Brown, Kellan Boylan, Beau Becker and Rytis Petraitis.

Starters for the Aggies: Ian Martinez, Darius Brown II, Mason Falslev, Josh Uduje and Great Osobor.

Brown II started the game off quick with a lay-up immediately after the tip. He has logged 177 assists and ranks fifth in USU’s single season record list.

Martinez landed the first Aggie three just over a minute into the game.

Uduje launched for a dunk over a Falcon to send the crowd into a Frenzy.

Osobor, just a few plays later, also flew in for a dunk as well. He has scored in double figures in all but two games this season, including 20 points in at least 11 and three at 30-plus.

Falslev made a difficult, in traffic layup. He has recorded 43 steals this season to put him in fourth place for most steals as a freshman.

“We really wanted to guard the three point line,” Sprinkle said.

Going into the half the Aggies led the Falcson 43-30.

Falslev subbed out after a rough try for a layup that ended in a bloody nose.

Just a few minutes later, Osobor was hit in the face by a Falcon’s shin and exited the court with blood on his face and hand.

Martinez drained another off-the-cuff three.

Isaac Johnson drew a foul on Brown to give the Aggies another chance with the ball.

“When he came in, he came in and got three rebounds,” Sprinkle said referring to Johnson.

Osobor returned to the game with tape on his head from stitches just above his eye. He made his free throws after a foul for his first points back in the game.

Coach Danny Sprinkle’s hand was also bleeding during the game.

“I probably I have to reimburse the team for a clipboard,” Sprinkle said regarding to the blood on his finger during the game.

Osobor had a fashion change with a headband to cover his cut.

Brown II stole the ball to finish off the game. He also amped up the crowd.

Final: 72-60 for the Aggies.

“If this team wants to continue to win at the level that I know they want to win it, there’s still some things that in Fresno and this game we need to clean up,” Sprinkle said.

Aggies play San Jose State on Wed. March 6 in San Jose.
