Utah State’s women’s basketball team finished exhibition play with a convincing 109-76 win over Dixie State in the Spectrum on Saturday.
Funda Nakkasoglu led the charge for the Aggies with 22 points on 12-16 shooting and 5 assists.
“Run, gun, have fun. That’s our motto,” Nakkasoglu said. “We look to get out on the break and push the ball to earn easy lay-ups in transition.”
Utah State exploded for 42 points in the second half to put the game out of reach for Dixie State.
“The tempo was just what we wanted,” said head coach Jerry Finkbeiner. “We want to score in the hundreds. Scoring 109 against any opponent early in the season is pretty good.”
Utah State’s young starting line-up looked impressive.
Freshman guard Rachel Brewster posted a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman Katie Toole added 19 points and collected five rebounds.
“We are right where we want to be,” Finkbeiner said. “I like our team. We are really young. It’s an excitable group and I’m excited to see where we’ll end up.”
Utah State will open the regular season at home against Sacramento State on Nov. 14.
