Aggies fight hard but fall short against La. Tech

Junior Jarred Shaw scored a career-high 21 points but the Utah State men’s basketball team fell short in it’s upset bid of WAC-leader Louisiana Tech Saturday at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.

The Aggies overcame a poor first half in which they shot just 29 percent, but an 18 percent shooting effort by the Bulldogs in the second half allowed USU to get back in it and tie it up with a little less than a two minutes to go.

Raheem Appleby hit the go-ahead 3-pointer with 90 seconds left that proved to be the difference as sophomore Ben Clifford’s 3-point attempt as time expired rimmed out.

The Aggies fell to 5-4 in WAC play with the loss while the Bulldogs maintained a perfect 9-0 record.

Utah State hits the road for a three-game swing starting at Idaho Jan. 31 at 8 p.m.
