Aggies have strong showing at Montana State Open
The Utah State cross-country teams took third and fourth place at the Montana State Open in Bozeman, Mt., on Saturday.
Junior Kyle McKenna placed second overall to help the men’s team to its fourth place finish with a time of 24 minutes, 51 seconds in the five-mile race.
Senior Alex Litzsinger took second in the women’s three-mile race with a time of 17:19.00.
Utah State head coach Gregg Gensel said he “saw great improvement.”
“Overall, I am very pleased with a lot of individuals,” Gensel said. “I have seen improvement in practice, and I think it showed up in the meet today.”
Litzsinger said she felt really good about the race.
“(I was) very pleased to see some of the ladies and how they stepped up,” she said.
Other standout performers included freshman Tylee Newman, who took fourth in a time of 17:34.00
McKenna called the race a “learning experience” and has hopes for another Western Athletic Conference Championship.
“We raced against a lot of people we had at the Aggie Invite,” he said, “so it was kind of fun to see how we placed against them.”
The USU cross-country team will race next at the Roy Griak Invitational on Sept. 29, which will take place in Twin Lakes, Minn.
