Aggies lose heartbreaker to Boise State

Boise State edged out the Utah State women’s basketball team 63-58 in Logan on Wednesday night for their seventh consecutive win.

Sophomore guard Funda Nakkasoglu gave the Aggies a one point lead with just under three and a half minutes remaining in the game but Boise State ended the game on a 10-4 run to secure a Bronco win.

Utah State is now 10-11 overall and 5-5 in Mountain West play with only eight games remaining in the regular season. Boise State improved to 15-6 overall and 8-2 in conference play.

“This was a frustrating game for us,” said USU head coach Jerry Finkbeiner. “Boise State is a pretty good team but we’re a pretty good team too, we just don’t know it yet and we might not realize how good we are until next year.”

Nakkasoglu led all scorers with nineteen points on 6 for 22 shooting. Nakkasoglu was the only Aggie on the night to connect from behind the three point line. Freshman Katie Toole added fourteen points on 7 for 7 shooting.

Freshman Deja Mason contributed off the bench with seven rebounds and tied a school record with eight blocked shots.

“In the end, execution was the big thing,” said Mason. ”They executed and we just couldn’t do it, but we’re going to come back strong.”

USU’s next game will played at home against Wyoming at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
