Aggies strike back

The Aggies got off to a quick start with four runs in the bottom of the first inning, highlighted by a two-run home run by Gavin Johnson, and held on through a jam in the top of the seventh to win 5-2 over Colorado State on Saturday night.

Jaren Tyler pitched six innings, allowed one earned run and had seven strikeouts. Tyler White and Tyson Hall each had two hits for the Aggies.

Colorado State had the bases loaded and no outs in the top of the seventh, but was only able to get one runner across home plate.

The second game of the day featured a young squad for the Aggies, who started freshmen at second base, shortstop, third base, catcher and left field.

“We had an opportunity to get some guys some innings,” said Coach Garrett Schiffman. “We brought in a freshman on a tight situation to close out the game and he really shut the door. I’m happy with how that turned out and couldn’t ask for anything better than a win”

Coach Schiffman said there were positive things to take away from the game as well as a list of things to work on.

“It was nice to see these guys actually hit the ball,” Schiffman said. “Defensively this weekend, we need to tighten up. That’s what is going to win us the game.”

The Aggies conclude their series with Colorado State on Sunday morning at 10 a.m.
