Ags facing tough game

Coming off a 93-83 loss to New Mexico State, the Utah State men’s basketball team will try to regroup against first-place Louisiana Tech on the road Saturday.

The Aggies will face the Bulldogs at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Thomas Assembly Center in Ruston, La. The game will air on KJZZ-TV on tape-delay at 3 p.m. and will be showing in the TSC Sunburst Lounge.

“We’ve got to regroup and come out with a win on Saturday,” Aggie Nate Harris said. “Every game counts. There’s never an easy game. It’s going to be a battle. Hopefully, the character of our team will come out.”

Louisiana Tech leads the WAC with a 7-2 record, but lost 65-53 to Nevada Thursday.

“They’re in the captain’s seat right now with four road wins,” he said.

With USU’s loss, it dropped to 6-3 in conference play and 15-5 overall.

These teams met in Logan Jan. 18 with the Aggies winning 64-55. Bulldog Paul Millsap scored 20 points with 17 rebounds in that game. He had 16 points and 11 rebounds against Nevada Thursday.

“They have an unbelievable guy in Millsap,” head coach Stew Morrill said. “I know our guys will come out and give it a full effort.”

Carroll hit 10 3-pointers in Thursday’s game against New Mexico State and scored a career-high 32 points.

Nate Harris also scored 18 points with 3 rebounds and nine assists.

“It was disappointing to shoot that well and not win,” Morrill said. “NMSU caused us to turn it over and made us shoot more 3-pointers than we like.”

Morrill said LTU’s defense will also cause fits for the Aggies.

“They give you fits,” Morrill said. “They don’t want you to do what you want to do.”

After LTU, the Aggies will return home to face NMSU again Saturday before going on the road again to face the Idaho Vandals.
