Ags get second tennis victory over WSU
Utah State men’s tennis came from behind to defeat Weber State, 5-4, Tuesday. This was the second meeting between the two schools this season with Aggies earning wins in both matches. USU is now 8-5 on the season.
In doubles action, USU failed to win the point, losing at the number one, two and three spots. At the number one spot, WSU’s Sascha Kiehne and Simon Unger defeated sophomores Jakob Asplund and Bryan Marchant, 8-6.
“I’m really proud of the team,” USU head coach Christian Wright said. “They did a great job of getting settled down and focused for singles after the loss at all three doubles.”
In singles play, USU took four of the six singles points to take the lead. Asplund battled to three sets to defeat the Wildcat’s Kiehne, 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, at the number one spot. At the number four spot, senior Mike Banks improved his singles record to 9-4 with a win over WSU’s Travis Covington, 7-5, 6-2. Aggie freshman Jordan Barlow ties Banks with the team’s highest singles record, 9-5, after crushing the Wildcats’ Spencer Marchant, 6-3, 6-2, at the number six spot.
USU will continue action in Logan, hosting Montana State on Sunday, March 29 at 10 a.m. Admission to the Sports Academy and Racquet Club is free and open to the public.
