Chelsey Gensel

In the fifteen minutes preceding the Mr. & Mrs. International Pageant, USU President Stan Albrecht presented the 13th annual diversity awards to five individuals who have contributed to diversity and equal opportunities in the community and on campus.

The awards were presented Friday, Nov. 17, in the Sunburst Lounge as part of ASUSU’s Diversity week.

The awards were given to Juan N. Franco, Maria de Jesus Cordero, LuAnn Helms, Melissa Nuntapreda and Bartell W. Cardon and ended in a brief speech by Albrecht in which he thanked the recipients for “outstanding leadership” and service they have provided.

Franco left USU last year but previously held the position of Vice President for Student Services. Cordero is an associate professor of Spanish at USU. Helms is a psychologist at USU. Cardon was formerly a director of Bear River Mental Health and is also a psychologist.

Nuntapreda stands as the lone student recipient. She is an undergraduate in Nutrition and Food Sciences.
