Uncle of missing 5-year-old charged with murder, other crimes

Cache County prosecutors charged the uncle of a missing 5-year-old girl from Logan with murder on Wednesday.

Alex Whipple, 21, of Providence was charged with aggravated murder, a capital offense, kidnapping, first-degree felony, two counts of obstructing justice, second-degree felony, abuse or desecration of a human body, a third degree felony in 1st District Court in Logan on Wednesday morning, according to court records.

Police continue to search for Elizabeth “Lizzie” Shelley who went missing from her Logan home early Saturday morning. Police have said, Whipple, her uncle, has not been cooperative during the investigation and is a suspect in the 5-year-old’s disappearance.
