Alumni Association hosts ‘Aggie 2 Aggie’ event
The Utah State University Alumni Association hosted the first-ever Aggie-2-Aggie Speed Networking event on March 1. The 60-person Zoom call was hosted by Sian Smith, Nathan Lundberg and Riley Crezee.
The event paired current USU students with alumni from all around the world. Participants were sent into multiple breakout rooms during the duration of the call, allowing students and alumni to connect and begin networking, with the overall goal of increasing the use of the new Aggie network after the event was concluded.
“Aggies need to know about the new Aggie network so that they can advance their careers and they can advance their passions,” Riley Crezee said, mentoring director for the Student Alumni Association.
I wasn’t expecting the Aggie-2-Aggie Speed Networking event to benefit me too much, particularly because my career goals are vague and not too popular, but I was pleasantly surprised. As it turns out, regardless of the career path of alumni, they still have important knowledge and experience that I can learn from.
During the Aggie-2-Aggie event, I was able to talk to USU Alumni about how to build a good resume, possible internship opportunities and what my degree can do for me.
According to several USU alumni, for a resume to be good, it needs to illustrate what you offer compared to what the competition offers. A good resume is one that clearly identifies what attributes set you apart from other applicants.
The Aggie alumni have connections all over the world, so when current students use the Aggie Network website, they are networking and finding connections outside of Utah. These connections can be so beneficial and help Aggies get the jobs in the fields and locations they want, which is why signing up for the Aggie Network is so important.
“You can sign up if you have an email, you can sign up if you have a LinkedIn,” said Nate Lundberg, an Alumni Engagement officer. “You can just sync your LinkedIn to this page. It pulls up all your LinkedIn information so you don’t even have to fill out your profile.”
The Aggie Network events are limited to current and past Aggies but are completely free of charge. Keep an eye out for emails from the alumni association about new Aggie networking events that are sure to be beneficial to USU students.
