Annual Small Satellite Conference brings thousands to Utah State
Students and satellite industry professionals came from far, wide and around the block to attend the Small Satellite Conference in Logan last week. The conference brought in around 3,000 people from 40 different countries.
Marianne Sidwell, the conference administrator, said the event was started in 1987 with 50 Utah State University professors interested in small satellites. One of the main professors who started the conference was Frank J. Redd.
Sidwell said she has noticed growth in the conference and in the community, and that awareness for the conference is spread mainly by word of mouth.
“We don’t do a lot of advertising, truthfully,” Sidwell said.
Sidwell added that the Small Satellite Conference is proud that it is not specific to one company, university or country.
“We are all things for the small satellite community,” Sidwell said.
