Anti-war Rally

Editor:

I did not attend the anti-war rally on campus, but I read the accounts in both the Statesmen and the Herald-Journal. While applaud the activism on both sides, as a USU faculty member I am embarassed by the childish and immature actions that were apparently on display.

Those on the “Bomb Saddam” side went to the rally in the name of “freedom”, but were hoping to drown out voices of those choosing to express an opposing view. It seems that these folks have forgotten the words of Patrick Henry, as well as the true meaning of the Constitution. Stop being a bunch of playground bullies.

The argument of those on the “anti-war” side can apparently be reduced to name-calling. Can these folks not generate a more well-reasoned argument against war? To those on this side of the dismal debate I must say, “Sticks and stones may break my bones…”

Come on, children, grow up or we’ll have to send both of you to your rooms.
