Mama Longlegs on second day of LCL at WhySound.

Artist feature: Mama LongLegs

Allie Harris, Megan Simper, and Julie Taquin, members of the band “Mama LongLegs” performed friday night at the WhySound venue for the Logan City Limits music festival. This Northern Utah band is fairly new, with the group just being formed in August of 2017. The band fully consists of two other members Kendall Becker and Dan Fields as well. The name “Mama LongLegs” came from band member Allie Harris.

“Our name is a take on the spider name Daddy Long Leg. Without fail someone always asks who has the long legs in our band,” Harris said.

Mama LongLegs unique music style is a mix of  blues, rock, folk, with acoustic and electric influences and strong female harmonies. The female trio utilized the acoustic guitar, electric guitar, violin, and their vocals during their set at WhySound.

“People should check us out because we have harmonies that are pretty rare for Logan and uplifting feel good music. We are also the only all-female trio in Logan,” Taquin said.

All three girls were excited to be able to perform for the audiences at Logan City Limits this year.

“It’s been a great opportunity and from what I’ve seen super well organized. For it to be a free event is insane. It’s nice to have this melding of the university and community and see support from both ends,” Simper said.

Mama LongLegs will be doing more shows around Cache Valley in the future. According to the group they have shows in Salt Lake in June and will be performing at the Beaver Mountain Music Festival in August. The band has also recently created t-shirts that sell for $20.
