ASUSU: Activites VP

Jami Voorhees, a junior in exercise science, said if she is elected as activities vice president she will do the best she possibly can.

If elected, Voorhees said she plans to build on the success of big activities like the Howl and Mardi Gras, bring back events like Snowfest and introduce new activities to involve more students.

She said she feels some of the best events are those like Guitars Unplugged, which is planned, organized and put on solely by students, because “when friends are involved, students come.”

One of Voorhees’ main goals is to get a big concert at Utah State University.

Voorhees also said she wants to make advertising more efficient and utilize the Internet as a resource as well as increasing efficiency in the Student Activity Board.

Voorhees said she has been involved in organizing Mr. USU, Let’s Make a Deal, the Howl and Mardi Gras.

She said she’s also participated in the Tim Reynolds and Julie Hill concerts, Athletics Cabinet, Hoops Fest, Week of Welcome and Homecoming.

Lindsay Lyman, a junior majoring in business information systems, said her experience in different positions at the university has given her a good feel for how the activities vice president position works.

As a member of the Student Activity Board (STAB) for three years, an A-Team Facilitator, Survival Facilitator and Leadership Retreat Facilitator, Lyman said she feels very qualified for the office.

She has also been involved with New Student Orientation (SOAR) and the Aggie Leadership Academy (ALA).

If she wins, she said she plans to put more of the money students pay at USU into activities.

“Students pay a lot of money. I think more of that should be put into activities that benefit them,” Lyman said.

Lyman said she hopes to keep the big activities that work going, but also wants to focus on getting a big-name band to USU.

She also said she hopes to get more student input and involvement in activities and would put on at least one large event each month.
