ASUSU: Agriculture Senator

Travis McNiven, an animal science major with a minor in agribusiness, is running for the College of Agriculture senator position.

Cade Davis, the other senatorial candidate, declined to comment to The Utah Statesman.

“Experience is what makes me the best candidate for the position. I currently serve as president of the College of Agriculture Student Ambassadors,” he said. “As an ambassador I have learned a lot about the college. I have a strong working relationship with the college administration and will use those ties to help the students be heard.”

He said he will also relay the administration’s viewpoint back to the students.

“ASUSU has a strong voice concerning where student money should be spent. I would be able to make decisions that help students get the most out of their money,” he said. “One person cannot keep everyone informed of what is happening all by themselves. I would stay in contact with the members of the college by working closely with Ag Council, clubs within the college and college administration. The key to staying in contact is establishing an efficient flow of communication.”

McNiven’s goals include: Creating more opportunities for students by expanding the current role and activities of the Ag Council, representing student needs to university and college administration in a professional manner, and magnifying the image of agriculture through educating the public on the role, future, opportunities and benefits of agriculture.

“The first thing I would do if elected would be to thank the students for their vote of confidence. The platform that I would tackle first would be to bring opportunities to the students of the college of agriculture so that they may understand what they will be doing once the textbooks are closed. I have some great ideas,” he said.
