ASUSU aiming to make TSC more student friendly

Members of the ASUSU Executive Council discussed several student needs Tuesday night, such as refining the booting ordinances and making the Taggart Student Center more student friendly.

Throughout the week, students will have the opportunity to write experiences they had when having cars being booted.

Quinn Millet, ASUSU president, plans on sharing these experiences with the Logan city council when they pass legislation on the topic in the next several weeks.

“Although the legislation [Logan City is trying to pass] is not negative, it’s still not doing enough to make booting ordinances more just,” Millet said.

Students can pick up a form to write down their booting experiences at the information booth in the TSC.

The council also approved a project to improve the TSC and make it more student friendly. It is currently headed by Nate Putnam, ASUSU executive vice president.

“We’re evaluating and assessing what’s in the TSC and, as student leaders, how we can make it more student friendly,” Putnam said.

Putnam will distribute a survey to about 1,000 students to receive their input about what changes they would like to see in the TSC.

In conjunction with the project, Joseph Ure, ASUSU administrative assistant, presented an idea to change the Skyroom Restaurant on the top floor of the TSC into an area where students can watch USU sports games when they aren’t playing in Logan.

“It’s in its beginning stages,” Ure said. “It won’t be a terribly expensive project.”

Half of the Skyroom would be separated to create a sort of sports bar atmosphere.

Among other items, Cody Bingham, ASUSU Agriculture senator, announced that $14,000 has already been raised for the memorial fund for the families of the victims that were involved in the fatal accident on Sept. 26. An additional $8,000 was also raised for the scholarship funds as well.

“They’re doing well and [the funds] will be open for quite a long time, maybe even to the end of the school year,” Bingham said.
