ASUSU already looking forward to The Howl

The Howl.

Alcohol. Drugs. Arrests.

Now that we’ve caught your attention, let me tell you what the Howl is really about.

The annual Howl, sponsored by the Student Activities Board and Associated Students of Utah State University, is Utah’s largest student-sponsored event, with attendance of 7,000 the past two years. Students from all over Utah and Idaho enjoy an evening of Halloween fun, head-banging music, hypnotist shows, blow-up toys and yes, even the occasional questionable costume.

The 25-year-old event isn’t just the largest student-sponsored event. It’s also the largest financial contributor to the STAB which hosts free monthly movies, Mardi Gras, dances, aerobics, and comedy nights. Without the Howl, these events would not be as successful or even as possible as they are.

Now, back to those myths of alcohol, drugs and arrests. Let me clear them up for you. Whenever you have 7,000 college students together in one-location things may happen. Last year, out of those in attendance there were only 13 arrests, none of which were Utah State students. Amazing, isn’t it?

On Oct. 31, you can count on 10 more hired officers for a grand total of 20 police officers; including 25 hired crowd-control officials and 75 volunteers – all there to ensure a fun, safe and enjoyable evening.

Howl tickets for Utah State students go on sale Thursday in both USU Ticket Offices. With a valid student I.D. you pay only $10/ticket, with a two-ticket limit per I.D. If you bring in two cans of food to the Ticket Office, a $2 discount will be given, making your ticket only $8. On Oct. 20, the remaining tickets will then be available to the public and non-USU students. Remember, no weapons, props, masks or alcohol are allowed. Valid I.D. must also be shown the night of the Howl.

All canned-food donations will be given to the Cache Community Food Pantry. With the amount of students that attend the event, think of how many cans we could donate to those less fortunate in our community!

So, Aggies, get your friends together and buy your tickets early, get a discount, and have fun, all while donating to a worthwhile cause.

I’ll be there, and so will 6,999 other college students.
