ASUSU: Are you the one who will get this $1000?

Shaun Kjar

As campus diversity and organizations vice president, I want everyone at USU to realize they have the opportunity to make a difference this semester. Reaching out and providing service is a great avenue to gaining perspective and increasing understanding. Students have so many wonderful ideas about how to help others but do not have the means to implement those ideas. I am here to tell you that the Associated Students of Utah State University have ways to make some of those ideas a reality. Here is one of those great opportunities.

How much good could you do with $5? How about $10? Now what about $1,000? I want you to design a service project and if you win, I will provide you with $1,000 and help you find the people you need to get it done. Just as with any ASUSU project, I want to be sure that the money is spent in the wisest way possible. I have set some criteria upon which the proposals will be considered.

The following criteria apply:

• This project must be completed before May 4, 2007.

• This project helps the most people possible (and it helps them a lot).

• This project encourages the widest range of involvement (USU students, community members, others).

• Total costs are at or near $1,000.

• Additional consideration will be given to projects that may happen year after year.

Submit a very simple description of your project to clubs@cc.usu.edu by Feb. 28 in order to be eligible for the money. Any ideas you have will be considered and after the field of ideas is narrowed, I will ask you for more project details. If you have details up front, let me know and they will be considered as well. You don’t need to be a member of a club or organization to enter. If you have an idea, I want to help you implement it!

Again, this is a great way to get involved. We have so many students who are exactly that, students, and just don’t have all the time in the world to do things outside of their classes. This is the perfect way to have your voice heard. We want everyone to be thinking of ways they can serve in hopes that even if they don’t win the money, the idea will be there and they can see that their idea is much more feasible when it has been thought through and planned out in advance.

I hope this makes more students aware of the ways they can make an impact and let them know that ASUSU is a great resource to help them implement their ideas.
