ASUSU asked for money

The Associated Students of Utah State University passed one bill and discussed two others on granting Capitol and Support Fund requests in Tuesday night’s Executive Council meeting.

Erica Thomas, graduate studies vice president, said she requested $5,000 from the ASUSU Capitol and Support Fund because the regular yearly allotted travel fund money had run out for graduate students.

Thomas said travel fund money is for graduate students to present their projects at conferences, and due to an overwhelming amount of requests this year for the money, not enough is left to give to all the graduates who want the travel funds this semester.

ASUSU passed the bill and the request was granted for $5,000 to go to graduate student travel funds.

Thomas said graduate studies will now accept applications on a first-come-first-serve basis.

The amount of money given to students for traveling will also be decreased in order to extend the number of students that can be accommodated, she said.

A Capitol and Support request was also made by Steve Kindred, student advocate vice president, who said he needed approximately $2,300 to furnish the new office for the campus diversity vice president.

The Executive Council moved to further discuss the issue in next week’s meeting.

Another Capitol and Support request was made by Nollie Haws who said she needed $5,000 to establish a new Web site over the summer for ASUSU.

Haws said the new Web site will be designed to go along with the new Utah State University Web site, but still uphold the unique style and integrity of the old ASUSU Web site.

The Executive Council also moved to further discuss this issue in next week’s meeting.
