ASUSU: Engineering Senator

Danielle Hegsted

Hieu Nhan, a junior in mechanical engineering and John Jacklin, a junior majoring in mechanical and aerospace engineering are both hoping to be the next Engineering senator.

“I am running on the platform that students need to know the issues before they are voted on,” Nhan said. “In the past, many students have told me how they were not aware of issues such as increased tuition and increased parking prices until they were voted, passed and printed in the newspaper.”

Jacklin said, “If I can improve the College of Engineering by involving the students and faculty and getting the rivers of communication flowing, then I will have bettered USU.”

Nhan said he has been involved with the Asian American Student Council and the Academic Scholars Program. He is serving as an engineering ambassador and is a founding member of the American Society of Agricultural Engineers.

Jacklin said he spent two years on the Engineering Council.

“I have demonstrated the ability to organize and execute activities,” he said. “I have taken the time to get involved, make things happen, and done so with success, not only with E-Council, but also with the AIAA Student conference coming up the first week of April. It is a conference for the entire Western U. S. that has and will involve many people and, I hope, be a great success.”

Nhan said, “I decided to run for this office because I feel that the Engineering College is not as involved with ASUSU activities as much as other colleges.”

“Remember: ‘It’s Hieu you want,'” he said.

Jacklin said, “The best way I can think of [to stay in touch with the students] is through the Internet. Most engineering students don’t even know that there is an E-Council Web site. I will update this Web site, advertise the Web site … and provide means for communication through the Web site.”
