ASUSU makes plans to bring back help desk in student center

After a few years without one, Utah State University may get a help desk in the Taggart Student Center.

The Associate Students of USU Executive Council discussed a bill Tuesday to build a new information desk. It will vote on the issue next week.

“This is a service to the students that we really do need to provide,” Celestial Bybee, ASUSU president, said.

Three years ago, the old help desk was taken down by Housing and Food Services, she said.

Funding for the help desk would come from the ASUSU budget and Student Services. It would be constructed outside the Card Office.

Cade Davis, ASUSU Agriculture senator, suggested amending the bill to make a trial period for the use of next year’s help desk. This will assess whether the desk will benefit the students, and Student Services will fund it in the future.

Ericka Ensign, ASUSU Academic vice president, said, “If we start paying for this now, we’re never going to be released from this burden of debt.”

Concerning the Faculty Senate meeting Monday, Ensign presented a resolution that would keep the faculty evaluations on the university Web site. The senate voted to take the evaluations off of the site in order to establish a system that accurately portrays the performance of each faculty member.

“We feel it is not appropriate,” Ensign said.

The resolution will also require suggestions for solutions about improving the evaluations on the site to be brought to the Executive Council.

“Everything should be public and easily available to students,” said Stephanie Kukic, ASUSU Graduate Studies vice president-elect, during an open forum about the resolution.

The council approved the resolution.

Ensign also informed the council about her presentation of the resolution for reading days and dead week at the Faculty Senate meeting Monday.

The senate will vote on the resolution April 28.

The council will meet with the administration for Stater’s Council on Thursday at 7:30 a.m. in the TSC to discuss legislation they have passed this year.
