ASUSU VIEW: Don’t get lost in the crowd

Jodie Savage

“Don’t get lost in the crowd” during the 2008 ASUSU Elections. According to the Associated Students of Utah State Universities Constitution, every registered student is a member of ASUSU, and has the right to voice their opinion. Have a concern?

There is no better time to voice your concern than during elections. Currently, there are 40 candidates contending for your vote. These men and women have the desire to make USU a better place for the student body. Unlike other universities, these candidates will have the responsibility of making decisions about fee increases, traditions, tuition and much more, as well as sitting on many campus-wide committees. During their time in office, these individuals will make decisions that will affect the future of your academic career. The hope is that you will vote for those individuals that are most qualified for the position.

Students can go to the ASUSU home page (www.usu.edu/asusu) and read the bios of individual candidates. Don’t just read about them, come and meet them.

There will be a presidential debate today in the Hub at 12:30 p.m., where students can get their questions answered by the candidates. Not to mention there will be free ice cream to kick off the beginning of elections. On Thursday, at 12:30 p.m., there will be a candidate reception in the Sunburst Lounge.

Primary elections will be held Wednesday through Friday until 1:30 p.m., when the election polls will close. The results of primaries will be announced at 2 p.m. that day in the International Lounge. Those that received the most votes will advance into next weeks final elections.

There is no better time than now to become involved and not “get lost in the crowd.”
