ASUSU welcomes student involvement

We will …

Utah State University students can get involved around campus by following the voice echoing “we will,” which is the theme of the Associated Students of Utah State University Executive Council.

“It’s all about getting the students involved. It’s using the power of the students’ voice and harnessing that,” said Mike Waggoner, ASUSU executive vice president. “I’m excited for this year. We want to make it a productive year for ASUSU, but most importantly the students of Utah State.”

With more than 20 different committees to choose from, students can join any time to get involved. A different ASUSU council member is in charge for each committee.

Committees vary from public relations to activities to athletics. Applications are available in the Taggart Student Center, Room 326 and provide a listing of all campus-sponsored clubs students have the opportunity to join.

“We are trying to keep a positive perspective of what we can do throughout the year and how we can get students involved,” Celestial Bybee, ASUSU president, said.

Aside from the applications, beginning Sept. 11 and continuing two times a month, tables advertising different involvement opportunities will be set up around campus.

Students can also check billboards set up in on-campus housing units and different buildings around campus.

“The ASUSU Web page will be up and ready to go soon so students can get to know what committees are available,” Bybee said.

Outside of USU campus, students can become involved in the community by visiting the Utah Student Association Web site http://utahstudents.org/, which gives opportunities to become involved with state issues.

As a council, ASUSU hopes to be continually improving every aspect of USU.

“As the year goes on, it’s the cohesiveness of the group that will help us to enhance the quality of education at Utah State,” Bybee said.
