Banff brings the outdoors inside for USU students
Each fall in a mountain town nestled in the Canadian Rockies, the Banff Mountain Film Festival attracts thousands of outdoor recreation enthusiasts. Filmmakers world round make the trek to Banff Canada to debut their films about the great outdoors.
According to the Banff festival Web site, every November, when the event takes place, approximately 300 films are viewed and judged with 55 winners are chosen.
Once the winners are decided in November for the next year the films go on a world tour that will include about 450 screenings in 260 venues distributed over 30 countries, according to the Web site. A few of these screenings will be held on campus at the Kent Concert Hall said John Louviere the program administrator for the Outdoor Recreation Center.
According to Louviere these films are made by a wide variety of makers ranging from high school students to professionals. The films are themed to the outdoors, some of them are high adventure stories, others are human-interest stories and even a few documentaries, said Louviere.
The Web site states that some of the films are sponsored by big companies like National Geographic or the BBC. Entries come from all around the world over 35 countries send in films to the festival.
