Utah State University’s club baseball team is up to bat on their home field for the second time this season.

The first time they played in Logan turned out to be a success as they came away with three victories.

“We should do well this weekend,” Head Coach Ernie Rivers said. “I hope we win all three. It would be a good start.”

By getting a good start, Rivers is referring to the fact the games planned for this weekend are some of the most important ones they have this season. The teams will be playing Western Mountain Conference rival Boise State University.

The first game will be Friday at 6 p.m. The other games will be held Saturday starting at 10 a.m. All games will be played at the Max L. Johnson Memorial Field in Providence.

“Fan support in these games really helps out,” assistant pitching coach Jeremey Gordon said.

The Aggies are already ahead of Boise as far as the Big Sky Conference records go since Utah State has a 6-3 record while Boise stands at 2-7.

The Aggies had five more conference games scheduled, but the weather did not permit them to play.

Rivers scouted the Broncos when they played Weber State University.

“I tried to get a feel for them ahead of time,” Rivers said. “They were pretty close games, but Boise lost all three.”

To prepare for these games the Aggies have been doing “a lot of hitting and fielding,” Rivers said.

With all the time they spent practicing in the Fieldhouse they have had a hard time becoming fluent at the plate when outside, Rivers said.

“We are trying to get the repetition [down] that we missed by being inside,” he said.

Taylor Jensen will be the starting pitcher in Friday’s game. The first game of Saturday’s doubleheader will be started by Brock Yancey, followed by Dan Murphy in the nightcap.
