Baseball to host Weber State
The Utah State University baseball club will host a doubleheader this weekend against the Wildcats of Weber State University.
The Aggies look to avenge a pair of losses to Weber State earlier this month. Head Coach Ernie Rivers feels the team is confident and prepared to be competitive against the Wildcats.
“We should do pretty well. We are headed in the right direction as a team right now,” Rivers said.
Due to conflicting schedules, the Aggies were unable to travel to Price last weekend for scheduled games against the College of Eastern Utah.
Rivers said having a weekend off was good for the team, allowing the players to rest after playing 14 games in a little more than a month.
Utah State is currently 7-7 on the season, due in large part to the growing unity of the team. Co-captains Mark Larsen and Jason Clark have each batted more than .400 and the pitching staff has been solid thus far.
The young team has impressed the coaches with their desire to improve each week.
“Our young players have really stepped up to the occasion so far this year. We are looking forward to a successful spring” Rivers said.
The games against the Wildcats this Saturday start at 11 a.m. at Providence Field. On Oct. 16, the two teams will play another doubleheader, this time at Serge Simmons field in Ogden at 3 p.m.
