Big Blue goes to preschool
Utah State University’s mascot, Big Blue, arrived at Morningside Preschool Friday morning with a few members of the USU football team.
Marie Logan, a teacher at Morningside Preschool, said Big Blue Day had previously been a success.
“We had Big Blue Day last year, and the kids loved it. We even brought in kids that aren’t normally here on Friday mornings to come and play with him,” Logan said. “Unfortunately, we only have an hour today. We’re really glad that he could come, though.”
After Big Blue answered questions from the students, with the help of the teachers, the students participated in coloring time with the football players. During the event, Big Blue autographed their pictures.
“I got to sit on his shoulders,” one student said.
While coloring, the kids individually took their picture with Big Blue. During the visit, the football players debated with the students over whether or not Big Blue is real.
During the activities, the students played on the playground with Big Blue and the football players outside.
Cornelius Lamb, one of USU’s cornerbacks, said the students had an energetic nature.
“I think these kids could definitely handle any one of our football
practices. If I followed any one of them around and did exactly what they
did, I don’t think I could keep up with them,” he said.
The kids repeated, “Big Blue, Big Blue!” as they ran after him. After wrestling, dodgeball, hide-and-go-seek, soccer, football, a hula-hoop contest, getting his horns pulled, and random games of tag, Big Blue at the end of the visit.
Logan said she and other teachers were confident that Big Blue Day would be a tradition at Morningside.
