Bruhn And Burton Heading To NCAA Track And Field Championships
Senior Ryan Bruhn and sophomore Kelli Burton will represent Utah State’s track and field teams at the 2004 NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas on Wednesday and Friday, June 9 and 11. Both Aggies will compete in preliminary events on Wednesday, with the finals taking place on Friday.
Bruhn, a native of Vancouver, Wash., will be making his second straight NCAA Championship appearance in the hammer throw after placing third in that event at the NCAA West Regional with a toss of 60.78 meters (199-05), and second at the Big West Championships with a mark of 59.36 meters (194-09). Bruhn owns the 12th-best hammer throw among competitors at the championships with a toss of 63.78 meters (209-03) earlier this season.
Burton, a native of Kaysville, Utah will also be making her second straight NCAA Championship appearance after placing sixth in the discus at the NCAA West Regional with a toss of 53.17 meters (174-05), and third at the Big West Championships with a mark of 50.96 meters (167-02). Burton’s mark at the NCAA West Regional was a personal best and is the 15th-best throw among competitors at the championships.
At the 2003 NCAA Championships, Bruhn placed 24th in the hammer throw with a toss of 56.56 meters (185-07), while Burton finished 24th in the shot put with a mark of 14.70 meters (48-02.75).
