Bruins named top Aggie

Viviana Ramirez

Utah Statesman: How does it feel to be named the Big West softball co-pitcher of the week?

Jill Bruins: It’s pretty much for the team. I didn’t do that much, the team did. It feels good.

US: What did you do in preparation for this season?

JB: I just started pitching after Christmas. I’ve been working really hard with the pitcher and the coaches. Every day, we come a half hour before practice so we can throw more.

US: What are your expectations for the season?

JB: We have the potential to play really well. We just have to play more consistently. I think we’ll be fine.

US: You are a freshman from Washington. Why did you decide to come to Utah State?

JB: I really liked the environment – all the girls were really fun. I liked the coaching staff.

US: How do you like it here so far?

JB: I like it. The snow is a little extreme, but I really like it. I’m from a small town, too.

US: How long have you been playing softball and how did you initially get involved with the sport?

JB: I’ve been playing T-ball since I was in first grade, and I started playing competitively in seventh grade, so I grew up with it. My dad is an athlete so he got me into it.

US: Besides softball, what are your other hobbies?

JB: There’s not much to do. Softball is pretty much a 24-hour a day commitment.

US: What are you majoring in?

JB: I haven’t decided. I’m thinking of marketing right now.

US: Who is your role model and why?

JB: One of my old coaches, because she taught me how to play the game and how to know the game.

US: You’ve won two games and you picked up your first save of the season against the four-time defending Big West champions, how was that?

JB: It felt pretty good. The defense really stood behind me.

US: If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

JB: Venice, because of the waterways and because it’s an old city.
