BYU Police decertified
The Brigham Young University Police Department has been decertified by the Utah Department of Public Safety, meaning the department will no longer be able to make arrests and investigate crimes beginning Sept. 1.
The DPS told BYU in a letter Monday that its police department was being decertified because it “failed to conduct an internal investigation into specific allegations of misconduct by a BYUPD officer,.”
However, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints-owned university told the Associated Press they reputed the state’s findings and plan to appeal the decision, claiming the police department handled these matters correctly.
