Cheap helmets offered for kids
The Bear River SAFE KIDS Coalition is offering $5 bicycle helmets for children 12 and under from March 29 through April 9, or until they run out. The promotion coincides with Public Health Week.
Helmets can be purchased at the Bear River Health Department, 655 E. 1300 North, Logan. All sales are final. To ensure proper fit, measure your child around the head, one-inch above the eyebrow.
Bicycles are associated with more childhood injuries than any other consumer product except the automobile.
Head injury is the leading cause of death in bicycle crashes. The single most effective safety device available to reduce head injury and death from bicycle crashes is a helmet. Helmet use reduces the risk of bicycle-related death and injury and the severity of head injury when a crash occurs. National estimates report that bicycle helmet use among child bicyclists ranges only from 15 to 25 percent.
