Campus and Community Briefs

No night parking starting Friday

The Logan City Police, along with the Logan City Street Department and Logan Parking Authority, wish to remind the residents and business owners of Logan that starting on Nov. 15, 2002, the city’s overnight street parking and city-owned parking lots will be prohibited until Feb. 28, 2003.

This prohibition is for efficient snow removal operations to take place between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. each morning. Any vehicles observed during that time parked either on a city street or parking lot will be cited and, if deemed a traffic hazard, may be impounded by the Logan City Police Department.

Employees of the Logan Parking Authority are warning people parked on the street and in city-owned parking lots now to educate them about the ordinance. The public should not treat these warnings as a parking citation, just a tool for educating about the ordinance.

If residents or visitors have an emergency or some other circumstance that will not allow them to park their vehicle off the street during this time period, they should contact the on-duty supervisor of the Police Department at 716-9300 for a temporary exemption to the ordinance. Callers should be ready to provide their name, description of the vehicle license plate number and a contact telephone number.

With respect to the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays and weather permitting, enforcement of this ordinance will be suspended. The purpose of this suspension is to allow for parking as families and guests enjoy that time of year. For questions or concerns, contact Sgt. Patrick Wolcott at

716-9458.

Western storms

open ski resorts

DENVER (AP) – Skiers and farmers in drought-stricken Western states were rejoicing after a wave of storms dumped much-needed precipitation.

Some areas in California and Colorado got more than 4 feet of snow last week, and more was falling Sunday. Other areas that had seen little rain for months reported up to 6 inches. Three ski resorts opened in California and five opened in Colorado.
