Scientific poet to speak to students

Poet Pattiann Rogers will speak Thursday at 7 p.m. as part of the Department of English Speakers Series in the Eccles Conference Center Auditorium. A reception and book signing will follow.

Rogers will also participate in a public panel discussion, “Science and Poetry,” Friday at 10:30 a.m. in the Natural Resources Quinney Library.

USU jazz bands present concert

The Utah State University jazz bands will perform their second concert of the year Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Kent Concert Hall. Tickets are $3 at the door.

The Jazz Ensemble, led by Todd Fallis, will open with “Wind Machine.”

Joe McQueen will be the featured artist in the Jazz Orchestra set. Joe was born in Texas and grew up in the Texas-Oklahoma area of the southwest. He started playing the saxophone during his high school years and soon was playing professionally.

With the Jazz Orchestra, McQueen will play “Lester Leaps In,” “Tenderly,” “Blue,” “Sentimental” and “Red Top.”

The Jazz Orchestra, led by Larry Smith, will also play various selections.

Stuff a Bus plans

Utah State University’s Aggie Shuttle, Logan’s LTD and Cache Valley’s CVTD along with 94.5VFX present the second annual Stuff A Bus for Santa.

Until Friday, all Aggie Shuttle, LTD and CVTD buses will have donation barrels on board each bus for spare change donations. Also, until Dec. 13, all on-route bus drivers, USU Visitor Information Center, USU Parking and Transportation office and LTD downtown transit centers will be accepting unwrapped toys, clothing and non-perishable food items for Cache Valley Sub for Santa.

Students invited to holiday party

Various Utah State University on-campus groups will be sharing ethnic foods and holiday traditions at the multi-cultural holiday party Wednesday from 3 to 6 p.m. in Old Main, Room 252.

Musica Reservata tunes ring out

Musica Reservata of Utah will present its annual winter concert in Logan, Ogden and Salt Lake City during December.

The non-profit organization specializes in the re-creation of music from the Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque eras.

Music selections will be performed by instrumentalists and singers who are accompanied by a reader.

In Logan, they will perform Dec. 8 at 4 p.m. and Dec. 10 at 7:30 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 85 East 100 North. Tickets are available at Accents, 57 South Main, and Sunrise Cyclery, 138 North 100 East.

The group is also performing in Salt Lake City on Dec. 16 at 7:30 p.m. and in Ogden on Dec. 18 at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are $9 general admission, $8 senior citizens and $5 youth and students with a college ID.
