Help a Brotha’ Out

The Val R. Christensen Service Center and Community Partnerships presents a free benefit concert for your fellow man in “Help a Brotha Out,” Monday Feb. 10 at 8:00 p.m. in the Sunburst Lounge of the Taggart Student Center.

The “Help a Brotha Out” benefit concert is to provide opportunities for USU to learn about various service organizations and sign up to help someone out.

The three acts include MCU, Brett Rodgers and Jasmine Michaelson. Refreshments will be provided.

USU Group participates in America’s Promise

The USU chapter of Golden Key International Honour Society is going to Wilson Elementary and the Human Resource Center to record books on tape and clean and organize children’s toys on Saturday Feb. 8.

This activity is part of America’s Promise, a commitment to helping the children and youth of America. Worldwide, 90 chapters are registered and will participate as Chapters of Promise.

Students will meet in the Sunburst Lounge of the Taggart Student Center on Saturday at 8:45 a.m. Any member or non-member who is interested is welcome to participate. The project will take between two and three hours, but volunteers are welcome to come and leave as they are available.

USU Prof Selected for Program

The National Science Foundation has announced that Utah State University assistant professor of English Christopher Cokinos has been selected to participate in the U.S. Antarctic Program during the 2003-04 austral summer. Cokinos will collect what he calls ugly, important rocks, meteorites, which are found in abundance at the bottom of the planet.

Cokinos, who is under contract with Tarcher/Putnam to publish “The Fallen Sky: Eccentrics and Scientists in Shooting Stars,” will be sponsored by the Antarctic Artists and Writers Program, administered through the NSF’s Office of Polar Programs. As a visiting writer to Antarctica, he will participate in another NSF program called the Antarctic Search for Meteorites.

Robins Awards Nominations

Nominations are currently being accepted for the 2003 Robins Awards. Nomination categories include: Woman of the Year, Man of the year, Bill E. Robins Memorial for a graduating senior, Val R. Christensen Volunteer Service award, Organization of the Year and Achievement of the Year.

Nominations are being accepted until Friday, Feb. 14, and can be made by filling out a form at a table on the first floor of the Taggart Student Center, in TSC room 326, or online at http://a-station.usu.edu/robins.
