“A” Banners for sale in Alumni House

The Big “A” Aggie banners are for sale through the Cache County Alumni Association. Banners are regularly $20, but are $15 with a student ID.

The banners are 26 x 42 inches and made of heavy nylon with the words printed on them, said Bernice McCavin, president of the association.

McCavin said they talked to on-campus housing, who said the banners can be hung from walls or windows with putty or something else besides nails. For off-campus housing, landlords would need to be consulted about where and how to hang banners, she said.

Banners with hand-sewn lettering can be purchased for as much as $64 in the USU Bookstore, but these are being sold in the Alumni House at reduced prices.

These banners can be seen all over Logan, McCavin said. It’s a good way to show Aggie spirit.

For more information, contact McCavin at 753-5570.

USU hosts bio-tech symposium

In collaboration with the Utah State Office of Education, Utah State University’s Biotechnology Center is offering an intensive one-day symposium this Friday for science teachers in grades nine through 12 to learn ways to incorporate the emerging field of biotechnology into their classrooms. Forty-five teachers from 16 Utah school districts have registered for the event.

“From stem-cell research to genetically modified foods to cloning, biotechnology is playing a huge role in our society,” said Steven Scheidell, science department chair at Murray High School and one of the symposium’s presenters. “It is important that we as science teachers help students learn to examine ethical issues and make good decisions.”

The symposium will take place at USU’s Biotechnology Center. To view the location of the center on USU’s campus, log on to www.usu.edu/tour/biotech_center.html and click on “map” in the top menu bar. The center’s Web site is located at www.usu.edu/biotech.
