Faculty forum held on Monday There will be a faculty forum held Monday, Nov. 5 at 3 p.m. in the Eccles Science Learning Center, Room 46, the northeast end of the building. USU hosts two-part satellite seminar The department of journalism and communication at Utah State University will host an interactive, two-part satellite session on “Television and the African-American Experience: Civil Rights and Beyond” as part of the department’s Media & Society Lecture Series. Part one of the series will feature “On the Front Lines: Television and African-American Issues,” Wednesday, Nov. 7, 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Engineering Laboratory Building, Room 106. The session is live via satellite from New York, featuring Gerald M. Boyd, a New York Times editor, and civil rights activists and scholars Benjamin J. Hooks, Nicholas Katzenback and Judy Richardson. “Images of African-Americans on Prime-Time Television,” part two of the series, Wednesday, Nov. 14, 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Engineering Building, Room 106. Copy Ed 11/1/01 Which titles go with which speakers? The speakers are Topper Carew, Howard University media scholar Jannette Dates, Tim Reid, actor and director and Mel Watkins, author. Accounting students ace competition Utah State University’s graduate and undergraduate tax teams won regional honors and the right tocompete in the 10th annual Andersen Tax Challenge. They will be in St. Charles, Ill., at theAndersen Center for Professional Education, Nov. 16 through 18 to test their skills against teams fromaround the nation. At the national competition, each team of four students must use their tax knowledge todevelop a series of recommendations and solutions regarding the business and financial dealingsof a fictitious taxpayer. Both teams are advised by Vance Grange, professor in school of accountancy.
Students encouraged to vote There will be a candidate information table about Logan’s finalists on Tuesday, Nov. 6, on the first floor of the Taggart Student Center. There will also be an enlarged map and color-coded precinct list located on the first floor of the Taggart Student Center to inform students when and where to vote. The Logan finalists debate is Monday, Nov. 5 at noon in the Sunburst Lounge of the Taggart Student Center. The video commercial contest winners will be announced after the debate.
