Preparation to be taught Thursday A disaster preparedness seminar will be held Thursday in the Ellen Eccles Theatre, located at 43 S. Main St., from 7 to 8 p.m. Volunteers from Ground Zero in New York City will be speaking. Disaster experts will also speak on personal preparedness in a disaster and what resources will be available. Public health officials and emergency management personnel will be there to answer questions. Information about 72-hour kits, in-place sheltering and other first aid tips will be available. Attendees can learn of training and education opportunities that are available. For more information on this free seminar, call 752-125.
Depression screening to be held Thursday Free confidential depression screenings will be given Thursday in the Taggart Student Center, Room 335. Students can get information for themselves or for friends. There will also be educational presentations about depression given between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Refreshments will also be served. Depression Screening Day is sponsored by the National Screening Day Project. For more information, call the Utah State University Counseling Center at 797-1012.
Date auction to benefit Red Cross Members of the Associated Students of Utah State University will be auctioned off for charity Thursday at 6 p.m. in the Sunburst Lounge. All proceeds will be donated to Cache County’s American Red Cross.
All invited to attend Rock and Fossil Day Utah State University’s geology department will be hosting Rock and Fossil Day on Saturday. Rock, mineral and fossil enthusiasts of all ages are invited to attend. This is a bi-annual event showcasing geological studies and research at USU and to introduce young people to geology. Hands-on examination of fossils, rocks and minerals will be featured, as well as satellite maps, microscopic views of rocks and minerals, ground water and stream-flow displays, and demonstrations of how to identify minerals with X-ray diffraction. GIS Day 2001 to be held Wednesday A Geographic Information Systems Day open house will be held Wednesday in the atrium of the Natural Resources Building from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The open house will be centered around the theme “Discovering the World Through GIS.” There will be a map gallery, demonstrations, an award winning CD-ROM virtual tour of GIS, videos, handouts and games. Presenters will include: Logan City, students and professors from USU and state and federal agencies.
