Student released from LDS hospital A student left in critical condition following a Nov. 10 rollover in Logan Canyon was released from LDS Hospital. Carlos M. Sanchez, 18, Providence, was released from medical care but remains in rehabilitation, said Jeni Owens, LDS Hospital spokeswoman. The accident occurred around 10 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10 in Rich County, near Bear Lake. According to the Utah Highway Patrol report, the vehicle hit a patch of black ice and rolled over, coming to rest 100 feet from U.S. Hwy. 89. The three passengers were taken by ambulance to Logan Regional Hospital, arriving just before midnight, said Logan Regional Hospital spokeswoman Debbie Lewis. Because of the severity of Sanchez’s head injuries, he was flown to LDS Hospital and listed in critical condition. The other two passengers were treated and released from Logan Regional the following day.Free shuttles offered for home games The Athletics department, Big Blue Club and Cache Valley Mall have teamed up to offer a free shuttle from the Mall’s parking lot for all of Utah State University’s home basketball games. The buses will stop near JC Penney’s and on the southwest corner of the mall. The buses will return to these locations immediately following the games. For Saturday’s game against BYU, the shuttles will run continuously from the parking lot beginning at 7 p.m. For all other games, the service will run at 6 p.m. and again at 6:30 p.m.

Flu shots now available to everyone The Bear River Health Department announced Tuesday that it received a large shipment of influenza vaccine and will open its flu shot clinics to everyone. Initially, the health department only offered the vaccine to people in high-risk categories such as elderly people and people with chronic medical conditions because the first shipments from vaccine manufacturers had limited quantities. Flu shot clinics will be held at the Bear River Health’s Logan office, 655 E. 1300 North, 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday; 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday and Friday; and 1 to 6 p.m. Wednesday. There is a $12 fee for each flu shot.

Merill Library tours to be held Friday Library staff members will be on hand Friday at 7 p.m. in the Merrill Library to host faculty and friends through “Treasures of the USU libraries.” Tours and displays will be related to electronic resources, government documents and maps, the Beat collection housed in the art book room, Special Collections’ historical Hatch Room and journal price inflation.

Story time to begin Tuesday at 2 p.m. Library staff members and special guests will read their favorite stories and children’s books in 15-minute shifts Tuesday through Thursday from 2 to 3 p.m. in the Merrill Library lobby. Guest readers include: Michael Spooner, director of Utah State University Press (2:45 to 3 p.m. on Tuesday); Debbie Hobbs, elementary education department (2 to 2:15 p.m. on Wednesday); Jay Anderson, history department (2:30-2:45 p.m. on Wednesday); and Phyllis Hall, Utah State University’s First Lady (2 to 2:15 p.m. on Thursday). The readings are open to everyone. Students are encouraged to attend.

Sigma Tau Delta sponsors food drive Sigma Tau Delta is sponsoring a food drive for CAPSA on Wednesday. Everyone is invited to bring a can of food to the Ray B. West Building, Room 214 at 7:30 p.m. Sigma Tau Delta will be providing pizza and will be showing episodes from Monty Python and the Flying Circus for all those who bring canned donations.
