Defensive driving classes available
The Utah Safety Council is now offering a four-hour defensive driving course for individuals in the Logan area. The course will take place on Saturday at the Sheriff’s Office, from 8 a.m. to noon.
The four-hour course consists of classroom instruction and focuses on accident prevention, driving confidence, awareness of hazards and improving driving skills.
Drivers may complete the course for a 50-point reduction from their Utah driving record, once every three years. Individuals 55 years of age and older may qualify for insurance discounts after completing the course.
Registration is $35 per person or $10 for those age 55 and over that are only seeking a reduction in their insurance rate. For additional information or to register, please contact the Utah Safety Council at 800-933-5943 or visit www.utahsafetycouncil.org.
Winter golf event to be held Saturday
Cache County Utah State University alumni are encouraged to get ready for the second annual Winter Golf Tournament, to be held on the field adjacent to the HPER Building at USU, Saturday.
Registration will be held in the HPER Building, Room 102, at 9:30 a.m., with the shotgun start set for 10 a.m. Cost is $30 per player.
Bernice McCowin, county chapter president, said the purpose of the annual tournament is to assist in raising money for scholarships to USU, which are then awarded to local students. Intended to be more fun than competitive, McCowin said the tournament was a wild success last year, and it is expected there will be even more fun in the second year of the event.
She said the tournament would consist of five-man teams with only one golf club allowed per team member. Each member will also take a turn acting as “spotter,” keeping track of where tee shots land. The position of each shot will be marked with a flag, and teams will progress around the 10-acre course layout as they would in a normal game of golf. Eight of the nine holes will be par three, with distances of 65 to 165 yards. One hole will be a par 4, and will be 250 yards in length.
At the end of the tournament, all participants will be treated to a luncheon, and prizes will be awarded to the winning five-some, golfers closest to the pin and the longest drive.
For more information about registration, contact Patty Halaufia at the USU Alumni House at 797-2055.

ASUSU referenda results in Thursday
Both the Campus Diversity and
secondary education votes passed, but the Extension vice president removal failed. Of the total votes cast, 257 were from Extension students, which is a much higher percentage of Extension students than usually vote in ASUSU elections or referenda.
The filing deadline for running for
Extension vice president or Campus Diversity vice president has been extended to Wednesday at 1 p.m. Potential candidates can pick up an elections packet in TSC Room 326.
