USU to present snowboard film

Teton Gravity Research will be at Utah State University presenting a ski and snowboard movie highlighting the best of this year’s riding and culture.

The film, High Life, features local Utah riders and film locations include Utah, Alaska, Wyoming, California, Oregon, Colorado, Switzerland, France, Italy and British Columbia.

High Life will be shown in USU’s Taggart Student Center Auditorium on Oct. 21 at 7:30 p.m. Purchase tickets in advance for $6 at www.feedthehabit.com, or at the door for $8.

USU senior elected to national council

Beckie Kimber, a senior at Utah State University, has been elected Region Six Representative of the National Leadership Council (NLC).

The NLC is the student governing body of The National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS), a highly selective, non-profit honors organization. Kimber will be a part of the NLC, which is responsible for helping the Board of Directors set the policies and direction of the NSCS. Members of the NLC completed their training in Washington, D.C. prior to NSCS’s annual leadership summit.

“Beckie will serve as a leader to other high-achieving college students looking to develop leadership skills and a true sense of civic responsibility,” said Steve Loflin, NSCS executive director.

Dance hall invites experts and novices

Beginners to experts of all ages who love to dance or want to learn how are invited to come dancing at the Rock ‘n Rhythms Dance Hall.

The hall features ballroom, swing, salsa and Latin dancing. The first weekly dance will be held on Saturday, Oct. 11, from 8:30 to 11 p.m. at the Columbus Center Auditorium, 2531 S. 400 East in Salt Lake City. A free dance lesson at 8 p.m. is included with admission and will be taught by Margene Anderson, who is certified through the Golden State Dance Teachers Association. Admission is $7 per person. A $100 cash prize will be given away on Oct. 11.

Hall to participate in grad. school panel

President Kermit L. Hall is scheduled to speak at a career forum at Utah State University on Thursday, Oct. 9.

Hall and USU professors Rimma Shiptsova, David Tarboton, Jing Huang and Charles Swenson will form a panel discussing “How to make graduate school work for you.” The forum will be held from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. in the Taggart Student Center Ballroom. All students are encouraged to attend.

Public relations students offered membership

Students are invited to join the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA).

The student society aims to foster understanding of procedures of the profession, awareness of a professional attitude and appreciation of the highest ethical ideals and principles.

A general information meeting will be held Thursday, Oct. 2, at 4:30 p.m. in TBA. To register, sign up before Oct. 31 on the third floor of the Animal Science Building on the main campus. All new members will be invited to a formal induction ceremony which will be held Thursday, Nov. 6, at 7:30 p.m. in the Ellen Eccles Conference Center.
