All about CAPS: What the free on-campus counseling service offers students

College is a time for personal growth and discovery. Young adults are faced with new challenges, such as autonomy, identity formation, relationship development, career identification, decision making and life planning.

Counseling and Psychological Services on the Utah State University campus offers psychological counseling to students to help cope with personal problems and direct students towards successfully achieving educational goals.

Licensed professionals address common issues including:

  • Feeling lonely and depressed
  • Improving relationships with family
  • Dealing with stress and anxiety
  • Feeling comfortable with the opposite sex
  • Making meaningful friends
  • Concern about eating patterns
  • Habits and compulsive behaviors
  • Traumatic experiences from the past

Students can stop by the CAPS office located on the third floor of the Taggart Student Center Room 306 to request an appointment. Counseling services are available Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. Any USU student with a minimum of 9 credits is eligible for consultation.

Students can meet for 30 minutes with a counselor to review concerns and explore options. Using this information, licensed professionals determine which service is best for the student.
