Carroll scores 29 points to down IPFW at home

The Aggies cruised past IPFW 77-63 Dec. 21 in the Spectrum in their first of two home games over the Christmas break.

The victory put USU’s home non-conference winning streak at 42 games.

Aggie guard Jaycee Carroll led all scorers with a season-high 29 points to go along with eight rebounds and four assists.

Junior forward Stephen DuCharme recorded his first double-double as an Aggie with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

The Aggies opened by hitting nine of their first 13 shots (64 percent), stretching the lead to 32-13 on a Carroll 3-pointer before IPFW cut it to 40-31 at halftime.

Coming out of the half, IPFW cut the Aggie lead to four points. The Aggies then went on a 5-0 run to put their lead back at nine points.

With 8:05 left, Carroll hit another 3-pointer to stretch the team’s lead to 62-48. The Aggies didn’t look back after that.

IPFW was led by Jaraun Burrows, who tallied 17 points, as well as Zelijko Egeric who collected 11.

IPFW shot 44 percent from the field as well as 35 percent from behind the three-point line.

Over the course of the game, the Aggies converted on 20 of 26 free throws (76 percent).

Senior forward Chaz Spicer had 10 points for USU, while teammate Durrall Peterson dished out a season-high six assists to go along with six points.

Junior guard Kris Clark ended a five-game scoring drought by contributing four points.
